Complementing a Historic Town Hall

Westwood Police Station

Westwood, MA

A Modern Facility With Historical Context

Located in the front yard of historic Westwood Town Hall, the existing police station was demolished due to inadequate space and deteriorating building conditions. A new station, located adjacent to the Town Hall, was designed to complement the historic building through its materials, roof lines, and fenestration.

The two buildings now create a cohesive feel centered around a new community plaza that supports a seasonal farmers market.

Safety, Security + Community

Safety, security, and community drove many of the programming decisions. Community space and secure spaces coexist seamlessly in one building. The community has welcoming access to meeting space at the public entrance, while secure police activities occur at the back of the site away from the general public.
