A New Chapter for Welch
Built in 1972, Welch Elementary School has had no major updates—until now. With a 300-square-foot addition, comprehensive upgrades, and contemporary finishes and furnishings, the school’s revival builds on an educational legacy of excellence and student-focus to welcome and support future generations.
Bringing New Life to an Old Building
The strategically phased renovation included a full replacement of all MEP systems, partial roof upgrades, a new fire suppression system, and accessibility improvements to meet current code standards. Interior spaces were reconfigured to create a more functional layout for Administration and the Media Center, while architectural and energy-efficiency enhancements were applied to the envelope. These updates were delivered with long-term value in mind, extending the building’s useful life by more than 30 years.
Sustainably Ambitious and Strategically Phased Development
Dramatic changes produced an all-electric facility and LEED Gold certification, aligning with the City’s commitment as a Green Community to reduce energy consumption and emissions from fossil fuels.
Two grade levels were temporarily relocated and, following a carefully phased construction plan, the school remained operational throughout the process. In response to supply chain challenges, long-lead items were identified early and construction was strategically sequenced through a series of Early Release packages, enabling steady and efficient progress.
