Supporting a Renowned Science Program

MassBay Community College

Framingham + Wellesley Hills, MA

An Environment for Science

The MassBay Science Department offers internationally renowned programs in biotechnology (forensic DNA science), marine biotechnology, and other life science programs. Their work study program combines laboratory and classroom curriculum with a two-year internship. Dore + Whittier completed a Feasibility Study & Master Plan for MBCC to address the increasing needs for science classroom and laboratory space.

D+W provided preliminary programming, design analysis, and concept designs to resolve space needs, improve educational contiguousness, and provide additional spaces such as a conference center that could be used by the College as an income-producing entity.

An Environment for Technology

D+W explored potential improvements to the Library, Computer Lab, and Academic Achievement Center (AAC) at the Wellesley Hills campus. The final D+W Master Plan proposed an expanded Library and AAC, a consolidated Computer Lab, and a renovated/expanded entry/lobby to better announce the main access and handle traffic volume. To accommodate the expansions, classrooms would be relocated to an under-utilized area of the building and a Conference Center would be in the former Chapel Building.
