SUMMARY

As a Job Captain / Project Architect you will be an essential team member responsible for leading the technical advancement of a project and the production of construction documents, drawings, and specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licensed or working toward architectural licensure
  • 5+ years’ experience in Architectural projects, with minimum 5 years’ experience managing production teams of multiple staff
  • 5 years’ production experience in design and drafting using Revit software, possessing an in-depth working knowledge of the current version of the software is required
  • Excellent communications skills and proactive interaction with others.  Ability to deal with multiple personality types and mentor others on the production team
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts Public Bidding Laws (MCPPO certification strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or related software
  • LEED certification preferred, but not required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (list is not extensive)

  • Participate in all phases of a project, from assisting with the design concept, implementing the design concept during Schematic Design, leading the production team during Design Development, maintaining Contract Documents, to spearheading the administration of the construction.
  • Serve as a principal decision maker related to issues such as application of building codes to the project and assuring code compliance, selection of construction materials, technical aspects of the building design, construction technology, and constructability. Consultation with the Project Manager and Project Designer will be required when significant impacts will occur. 
  • In concert with the Project Manager, hold responsibility for budgeting and managing the staff hours in which the project documents will be completed.  Help develop production schedules, project document scope and hours budgets, creation of strategies to help assure completion of the documents within the hours available, monitoring progress as the work progresses, and adjustments to strategies.
  • Establish direction for and supervise the production team via distribution of tasks to team members, review of produced work, and creation of redlines to describe and detail the work to be done or corrected. While not anticipated to be a principal Revit operator, knowledge of current Revit version is imperative to enable interaction with the production team and enable direct contribution of production in the completion of certain tasks during times of high demand.
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination, serving as liaison with all team consultants. Activities include establishing and enforcing consultant delivery schedules, review of consultant progress drawings and specifications for coordination and completeness, preparing redlines and corrections, and coordinating those with the consultant. Coordinate the architectural responses to consultant issues with in-house CAD operators.
  • Supervise production of all addenda and bid question responses during the bidding process. Establish an Addendum schedule, and coordinate issues requiring consultant responses.
  • Working with the Project Manager, supervise the construction administration process, leading the review of technical aspects of and responses to submittals and RFI’s. Supervise the creation of sketches, RFI Responses, Proposal Requests, and other instruments of change.
