Dore & Whittier was retained by the Town to provide Owner's Project Management (OPM) services for the new 400-student, grades 7–12 school. Dore & Whittier was also the Architect on this project. (Prior to 2005, Massachusetts General Laws allowed such a scenario). The project was complicated by the default of the initial general contractor who went bankrupt in the middle of construction. As the OPM, we led the process of pursuing the bonding company, procuring a new completion contractor, and closing out the failed contractor's subcontract work and payments. We coordinated with the Town's legal efforts in seeking financial reimbursement from the bonding company of the default contractor. The Town recovered all of their financial interests and, after a 9-month delay to the original schedule, occupied their new high school. Due to our strong leadership during this tumultuous process, the Town retained D&W as their OPM on a subsequent $4.1M renovation/addition project for the historic Haston Free Public Library.
