Ralph C. Mahar Regional School Orange, Massachusetts

Dore & Whittier was retained by the Regional School District to provide Owner's Project Management (OPM) services for the renovation and addition of this 1,100-student, grades 7–12 school serving four towns. Dore & Whittier was also the architect on this project (prior to 2005, Massachusetts General Laws allowed such a scenario) and the Owner retained our firm to provide full service design and project management services. This complex, multi-year phased project was undertaken without disrupting ongoing educational activities at the school. The 180,000 sf project included two full-sized gymnasiums, separate locker rooms for middle and high school students, state of the art media center/library, vocational programs and separate entries for this school within a school concept. This project also included the management a multi-million dollar environmental remediation effort of over 15,000 cubic yards of fuel oil-contaminated soils which required extensive coordination between the OPM, design team, Owner, MA DEP, local conservation commission and contractors.
